Art for the Future: Artists Call and Central American Solidarities

Art for the Future: Artists Call and Central American Solidarities illuminates the formative 1980s activist campaign, Artists Call Against U.S. Intervention in Central America. Published on the occasion of a pathbreaking exhibition of the same name at the Tufts University Art Galleries, this catalogue surveys Artists Call’s mobilization of writers, artists, activists, and artist organizations and looks at the group’s legacy today.

The bilingual catalogue has split text pages between English and Spanish translations, giving essays a mirroring-like quality. The book is divided into an accessible and identifiable framing system in which interviews are framed in gold and artists’ contributions in black. The cover also approaches this duality with an inversion of standard uncoated and coated paper that adds a softness to the uncoated front cover with an embossed bright yellow title.
