The Marianne and Edward Gibson Art Museum is a new cultural space dedicated to inclusive learning and critical inquiry through the visual arts at Simon Fraser University. The Gibson Art Museum wordmark is typeset in Marfa by Dinamo, and set in a bottom-aligned configuration, providing a rooted stability, while texts, images, and other messaging are dynamically placed above the mark in a gesture of support and embrace. A secondary mark inspired by the building’s plan forms a bowl, an outstretched hand, or a water droplet, invites further interpretation. The overall inversion of typical institutional alignments—putting collaborators, images, and other messaging first—embodies the concept of making space for ideas, and holds space for collaboration and partnership above all.
