Reading Room

Reading Room is an exhibition curated by Beth Stryker and Robert J. Kett that reinhabits R.M. Schindler’s Kings Road House with practices of reading, featuring furniture by Ryan Preciado and publications, artists’ books and printed matter from LA-based practitioners exploring the intersections of art and design. IN-FO-CO’s modular exhibition graphics are built around 2 in by 8 in bookmark and boast a lively palette with type by Forgotton Shapes.

For their installation, publishers and designers Shannon Harvey and Adam Michaels present two spaces for reading: three immersive posters from the 2016 expanded reprint of Blueprint for Counter Education and a new reading stand inspired by Aleksandr Rodchenko’s Workers’ Club at the 1925 Paris Exposition. As Rodchenko described, his environment for reading was one where “objects in our hands should also be equal, also be comrades…. People will begin to know how to laugh and enjoy and converse with things.”
