Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living, organized by curators Diana Nawi and Pablo José Ramírez with Ashton Cooper, is the sixth iteration of the Hammer’s biennial exhibition highlighting the practices of artists working throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

Designed by IN-FO.CO, the elegant, large-format catalogue evokes the broad expanse of the city, and provides a framework for the exhibition’s diverse artistic practices. The book’s typography features Municipal Grotesque, a typeface designed by L.A.-based Jonathan Maghen, based on metal dies used by public and private utilities for stamping outdoor materials such as concrete utility covers. This industrial-vernacular style is complemented by the warmth of Family, a recent release designed by Kris Sowersby, and the declarative Alternate Gothic by ATF.
